Many use a computer on a daily, but really have no idea to what each hardware devices responsibilities are. A computer’s hardware consists of different components that are essential for everyday functions. Take a look at these very important devices and how they operate.

The central processing unit, better know as the CPU, is an electronic circuit which assist with data processing by executing different computer programs.

This function is done in four steps:

  • Retrieving the instructions from the program memory
  • Decoding the instructions
  • Executing the wanted operation
  • Displaying the results

The computer’s motherboard is a printed circuit board that is located in the center unit of the computer. The motherboard is responsible for communicating to different components of the computer. This acts as the brain of the computer to tell it what to do.

Computers are equipped with a hard drive disk. It is a non-violate storage device in the system, which is also used to assist with storage of digital encoding data. The hard drive can be used to store information from different software as well.

There is Random Access Memory or RAM, where data is also stored. In this case the information is only stored in RAM until the computer is turned on. This device can read any data, in any order. Once the computer is turned on, the information is taken from RAM and it appears on the screen for review.

The monitor is the screen where all information that is access is displayed for review. Keyboards play the part of computing information into the system. The mouse has become most popular, due to the easier way of maneuvering around the screen and clicking on applications or links.

Desktop and notebook computers work the same when it comes to hardware components. All hardware must work hand in hand, with the right software, in order to make input and output on any system work efficiently.
