Windows 7 is the latest Windows Operating system in use right now and at the time of the launch of Windows 7, the creators, Microsoft had made a lot of claims regarding the operating system and the safety features incorporated into Windows 7 to protect it from malwares and viruses. And as per their claims, they had told that the users don’t necessarily have to install an anti virus program. The anti virus and web security firm Sophos planned to put the Windows 7 operating system for a test and verify the claims.
According to one Mr. Chester Wisniewski of Sophos Labs, they got a fresh Windows 7 copy installed into a machine and set all the control options of the user account to the default settings and this operating system was tested by using the 10 unique samples of virus which was received in the Sophoslabs feed in order to observe how the new operating system and its user Account Control (UAC) held up itself against these threats. On testing it was found that despite of all those tall claims made by Microsoft, Windows 7 was still susceptible for the eight out of ten samples tested. But on the brighter side, two of the samples could not operate on the Windows 7 platform. Windows 7 just like its predecessors was disappointing.
This means that the users running Windows 7 need to install an anti virus suite just like the way they used to do with the earlier versions. They can make use of recently launched new Microsoft Security Essentially which is provided free of cost for the Users. The Microsoft Security Essentials is ranked as the best free antivirus suite available way ahead of the likes of AVG, Avira and Avast. The Windows 7 operating system is a great success and on analysis it was found that the sales of Windows 7 in US alone is more than 230% higher than Vista when launched.
